Tutoriz provides 1-to-1 online IGCSE Physics tutoring for Cambridge IGCSE (0625) and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE (4PH1), at both Core and Extended tier. Tutors coach the six topic areas from motion, forces and energy through space physics, MCQ technique, structured-question working, and practical-paper alternatives — with lessons scheduled in your time zone. Every student starts with a free demo class.

IGCSE Physics is where science stops being about remembering facts and starts being about applying them. The questions that decide grades are rarely 'state Newton's second law' — they are 'a lorry of mass 18 tonnes accelerates at 0.4 m/s² on a slope; calculate the driving force', a multi-step problem that needs the right equation chosen, rearranged and applied to unfamiliar numbers. Our IGCSE Physics tutors train exactly that skill: identify the physical principle, set up the mathematics, then write the answer the mark scheme is looking for.

We tutor both boards taken by international-school students — Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625) and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics (4PH1) — and both tiers. Tier choice matters enormously: Core caps the grade at C/5, while Extended opens the full A*/9 range. If your child's school has entered them for the wrong tier, or hasn't decided yet, the tutor will flag it early enough to act on.

The practical assessment catches students out because it is not a lab exam most can cram. Whether your child sits Paper 5 (practical test) or Paper 6 (alternative to practical), the marks go to reading scales correctly, planning fair tests, processing results into graphs and spotting anomalies — skills that come from practising with real past-paper data every week, not from re-reading notes.

We work with IGCSE students at international schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh and Kuwait, in the UK and across Europe, and in the USA and Canada taking CAIE or Edexcel IGCSE abroad. Lessons are 1-to-1 online with a shared whiteboard for circuit diagrams, ray sketches and worked calculations, at evening and weekend times that fit around the school week.

IGCSE Physics Topics We Cover

Our tutors cover the full range of IGCSE Physics topics across all major curricula and exam boards.

Motion, forces and energy: speed-time graphs, moments, work and power

Waves: properties, the electromagnetic spectrum, sound and optics
Electricity and magnetism: circuits, resistance, electrical safety
Electromagnetism: motors, transformers and induction
Nuclear physics: the atom, radioactivity and half-life
Space physics: the Solar System, orbits and the Universe
Practical skills: variables, fair tests, graphs and anomalous results
MCQ technique for Paper 1/Paper 2
Command-word answers: 'explain', 'suggest', 'evaluate' written the way examiners mark

Where Students Struggle in IGCSE Physics

These are the IGCSE Physics sticking points our tutors solve most often.

Choosing and rearranging equations under pressure

Students usually know the formula sheet — they lose marks picking the right relationship and rearranging it correctly before substituting. Tutors drill the routine: underline the physical quantities, write the equation in symbols, rearrange, then calculate.

Explanation answers that stop halfway

Mark schemes award a chain of linked points, not one correct sentence. 'Explain why the balloon sticks' needs charge transfer, separation and attraction in sequence. We train students to write the full causal chain, one mark per link.

Practical-paper graph and data skills

Scales, line of best fit, gradient calculations and spotting anomalies are where Paper 5/6 marks are won and lost. Every tutoring block includes timed work on real past-paper data tables and graphs.

Extended-tier content treated as revision

Extended-only material — electromagnetic induction, nuclear equations, momentum-style calculations — is often left to the last month. We sequence it early, because these topics carry the highest-tariff marks on Paper 4.

How IGCSE Physics Is Assessed

Each component rewards a different skill, so tutoring is planned around the components your child sits.

ComponentFormatWeighting
CAIE 0625 — Paper 1 or 2 (Multiple choice)40 compulsory MCQs in 45 minutes covering the whole syllabus. Paper 1 for Core-tier candidates, Paper 2 for Extended — distractors are built on classic misconceptions, so technique matters as much as knowledge.30% of the grade
CAIE 0625 — Paper 3 or 4 (Theory)Structured short-answer and longer questions in 1h 15m. Paper 3 for Core, Paper 4 for Extended — calculations, graph work and explanation questions written against a published mark scheme.50% of the grade
CAIE 0625 — Paper 5 or 6 (Practical / Alternative to practical)Paper 5 is a lab-based practical test; most international schools enter Paper 6, a written alternative covering the same skills: experimental design, measurement, tables, graphs and conclusions.20% of the grade
Edexcel 4PH1 — Papers 1 and 2Two written papers with no tiering: Paper 1 (2h) covers the core syllabus, Paper 2 (1h 15m) the extra content. All practical skills are assessed through written questions — there is no separate practical paper.Paper 1 ~61% · Paper 2 ~39%

IGCSE Physics Tutoring FAQs

Do you tutor both CAIE and Edexcel IGCSE Physics?+

Yes. We tutor Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625) and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics (4PH1). The content overlaps heavily but the papers differ — CAIE tiers candidates into Core and Extended with separate MCQ, theory and practical papers, while Edexcel has two untiered written papers. Your child is matched with a tutor for their exact syllabus code.

Should my child take Core or Extended IGCSE Physics?+

Extended is the right choice for almost every student who might take physics further — Core caps the grade at C (or 5 on the 9–1 scale), while Extended covers the full range to A* (9). If your child is currently borderline, tutoring usually pays for itself by making Extended safe rather than dropping to Core.

How do you prepare for the practical paper (Paper 5 or 6)?+

We practise the skills the papers actually test: planning fair tests, identifying control variables, drawing and reading graphs, calculating gradients and spotting anomalous results. Because Paper 6 is a written alternative to a lab exam, students can score highly without specialist equipment — the marks are in method and data handling.

Is IGCSE Physics harder than GCSE Physics?+

The content is similar, but CAIE IGCSE papers tend to reward more structured mathematical working and include a dedicated practical assessment. Students coming from a KS3 or national-curriculum background often need a term to adapt to the mark scheme style — that is exactly what tutoring accelerates.

My child studies IGCSE in Dubai or Doha. Do lesson times work?+

Yes. We schedule 1-to-1 lessons in Gulf Standard Time and Arabia Standard Time, including weekday evenings and weekends, around the UAE, Qatar, Saudi and Kuwaiti school weeks. We also teach IGCSE students in the UK, Europe and North America in their local time zones.

When should IGCSE Physics tutoring start?+

Year 10 is ideal, when motion, energy and electricity foundations are laid that thermal, nuclear and space physics build on. For Year 11 students, starting by January leaves time to cover Extended-tier content and build Paper 4 technique before the May/June or November series.
