Tutoriz provides 1-to-1 online IGCSE Maths tutoring for Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A (4MA1), at Core and Extended tier. Tutors coach number, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability and statistics — including non-calculator technique now required on Papers 1 and 2 — with lessons scheduled in your time zone. Every student starts with a free demo class.

IGCSE Maths changed quietly and significantly: under the current Cambridge specification, Papers 1 and 2 are taken without a calculator — meaning core students sit a non-calculator paper for the first time, and extended students must be fluent in exact arithmetic and algebraic manipulation, not just button sequences. Students who learned maths with a calculator always in hand are discovering gaps. Our IGCSE Maths tutors rebuild the mental and written methods the new papers demand, alongside full syllabus coverage.

We tutor both boards — Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A (4MA1) — at Core and Extended tier. Tier choice is a real decision here: Core caps the grade at C/5 with a gentler paper, Extended unlocks the full 9 range but expects solid algebra. A tutor can tell within a few sessions which tier maximizes your child's grade — and what has to happen to make Extended the right call.

Method marks are the difference between a good and a great maths grade. Extended papers award marks for correct working even when the final answer slips — but only when the method is written legibly in the sequence the mark scheme expects. Our tutors train students to write maths the way it is marked: the formula chosen, the substitution shown, the answer stated with units.

We work with IGCSE students at international schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh and Kuwait, in the UK and across Europe, and in the USA and Canada. Lessons are 1-to-1 online with a shared whiteboard for graphs, constructions and worked solutions, at evening and weekend times that fit around the school week.

Where Students Struggle in IGCSE Maths

These are the IGCSE Maths sticking points our tutors solve most often.

Non-calculator panic on Papers 1 and 2

Students who always reached for a calculator now face exact fractions, standard form and surds with no backup. We rebuild written arithmetic and estimation drills until Paper 1/2 feels easier, not scarier, than the calculator papers.

Working that doesn't show the method

Method marks are only awarded for visible, ordered steps. Students who 'do it in their head' throw away marks they earned. Tutors enforce a written layout: formula, substitution, calculation, answer — every time.

Algebra as the gatekeeper to Extended

Quadratics, simultaneous equations and algebraic fractions decide whether Extended is safe. We sequence algebra early in tutoring because every later topic — functions, graphs, trigonometry — assumes it.

Multi-topic problems that look unfamiliar

Extended questions rarely stay in one topic — a vector inside a trigonometry problem inside mensuration. We practise mixed-topic past-paper sets from early on, not single-topic worksheets only.

How IGCSE Maths Is Assessed

Each component rewards a different skill, so tutoring is planned around the components your child sits.

ComponentFormatWeighting
CAIE 0580 — Paper 1 or 2 (Non-calculator)Since the current specification, Papers 1 (Core) and 2 (Extended) are sat without a calculator — exact arithmetic, algebraic manipulation and estimation carry more weight than ever. Paper 1: 1h 30m; Paper 2: 1h 30m.50% of the grade
CAIE 0580 — Paper 3 or 4 (Calculator)Structured questions where a calculator is expected — Paper 3 for Core (2h), Paper 4 for Extended (2h 30m). Multi-topic problems combining algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics.50% of the grade
Edexcel 4MA1 — Papers 1 and 2Two calculator papers of 2 hours each, both covering the whole syllabus — no tiering within Specification A at Higher; Foundation tier caps at grade 5 as with other IGCSE routes.Paper 1 50% · Paper 2 50%

IGCSE Maths Tutoring FAQs

Do you tutor both CAIE and Edexcel IGCSE Maths?+

Yes — Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A (4MA1), at every tier. We also tutor Cambridge Additional Mathematics (0606) for students extending beyond IGCSE.

Are IGCSE Maths papers really non-calculator now?+

At CAIE, yes — Papers 1 (Core) and 2 (Extended) on the current 0580 specification are taken without a calculator, first examined under this format in 2025. Papers 3 and 4 still allow calculators. We build non-calculator fluency into every block for CAIE students.

Should my child take Core or Extended?+

Extended is right for most students aiming at A-Level, IB or any STEM direction — Core caps the outcome at C/5. If your child is currently borderline, tutoring usually shifts the answer from 'safer at Core' to 'strong at Extended' inside a term.

Can you help with IGCSE Maths resits or the November series?+

Yes. Both boards offer a November series alongside May/June — ideal for students who need a higher grade for sixth-form entry. We run focused preparation backwards from the specific exam session.

My child studies IGCSE in the Gulf. Do lesson times work?+

Yes. We schedule 1-to-1 lessons in Gulf Standard Time and Arabia Standard Time, including weekday evenings and weekends. We also teach students in the UK, Europe and North America in their local time zones.

When should IGCSE Maths tutoring start?+

Year 9 or early Year 10 is ideal, when number and algebra foundations are set that every later topic builds on. For Year 11, starting by January still leaves time for a full coverage audit and timed past-paper practice before the summer series.
