IGCSE Biology Tutor — CAIE & Edexcel, Core and Extended
1-to-1 IGCSE Biology tutoring for Cambridge (CAIE 0610) and Pearson Edexcel (4BI1). From cells and enzymes to human physiology and genetics — with the precise terminology mark schemes demand.
Book a Free Demo ClassTutoriz provides 1-to-1 online IGCSE Biology tutoring for Cambridge IGCSE (0610) and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology (4BI1), at both Core and Extended tier. Tutors coach the full syllabus — cells, biological molecules, plant and human physiology, genetics and ecology — with a focus on the precise terminology and practical-paper skills that earn marks, at times that fit your school week. Every student starts with a free demo class.
IGCSE Biology has the largest syllabus of the three sciences, and the trap is treating it as pure memorization. The highest-mark questions ask students to apply biology to data they have never seen: a graph of enzyme activity, a food web with a species removed, a photosynthesis experiment with a changed variable. Our IGCSE Biology tutors teach the content thoroughly — then train students to use it on unfamiliar data, which is where the grades above 7 are actually decided.
We tutor both boards — Cambridge IGCSE Biology (0610) and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology (4BI1) — at Core and Extended tier. One of the most common reasons students underperform is imprecise language: mark schemes want 'active site', 'denatured', 'translocation', not near-synonyms. Tutors correct terminology in every lesson so the vocabulary of the answer is the vocabulary of the mark scheme.
The practical assessment (Paper 5 or the alternative Paper 6) rewards the same skills as the theory papers but in an experimental frame: microscope drawings, food tests, variables and controls, tables and graphs. We practise these with real past-paper experiments every week rather than leaving them to the revision term.
We work with IGCSE students at international schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh and Kuwait, in the UK and across Europe, and in the USA and Canada. Lessons are 1-to-1 online with a shared whiteboard for diagrams, cycles and worked genetics problems, at evening and weekend times that fit around the school week.
IGCSE Biology Topics We Cover
Our tutors cover the full range of IGCSE Biology topics across all major curricula and exam boards.
Where Students Struggle in IGCSE Biology
These are the IGCSE Biology sticking points our tutors solve most often.
Vocabulary that is almost right
'The enzyme is destroyed' loses the mark that 'denatured' earns. Mark schemes are terminology-exact, so tutors correct wording every lesson and drill the specific terms each topic requires.
A huge syllabus studied unevenly
Students revise the topics they like — usually human physiology — and avoid ecology or plant reproduction. We audit coverage against the syllabus and sequence revision so nothing is left unseen, not just unmastered.
Data questions answered from memory
When a question shows an unfamiliar enzyme graph or food web, memorized answers fail. Tutors train the discipline of reading the axes and the actual data before writing anything.
Drawing and graph skills in the practical paper
Biological drawings lose marks for shaded lines, wrong proportions and missing labels — easy marks lost through technique, not knowledge. We drill the drawing and graph conventions Paper 6 expects.

How IGCSE Biology Is Assessed
Each component rewards a different skill, so tutoring is planned around the components your child sits.
| Component | Format | Weighting |
|---|---|---|
| CAIE 0610 — Paper 1 or 2 (Multiple choice) | 40 compulsory MCQs in 45 minutes covering the whole syllabus — Paper 1 for Core, Paper 2 for Extended. Close distractors reward precise recall of terms and processes. | 30% of the grade |
| CAIE 0610 — Paper 3 or 4 (Theory) | Structured questions in 1h 15m — Paper 3 for Core, Paper 4 for Extended. Data interpretation, labelled diagrams and extended answers written against a published mark scheme. | 50% of the grade |
| CAIE 0610 — Paper 5 or 6 (Practical / Alternative to practical) | Paper 5 is a lab practical; most international schools enter Paper 6, the written alternative testing drawing skills, food tests, variables, tables, graphs and conclusions. | 20% of the grade |
| Edexcel 4BI1 — Papers 1 and 2 | Two untiered written papers: Paper 1 (2h) on the core content and Paper 2 (1h 15m) on extension topics, with practical skills assessed inside the written papers. | Paper 1 ~61% · Paper 2 ~39% |

IGCSE Biology Tutoring FAQs
Do you tutor both CAIE and Edexcel IGCSE Biology?+
Yes — Cambridge IGCSE Biology (0610) and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology (4BI1), at every tier. Students are matched with a tutor for their exact syllabus code and exam series.
Is IGCSE Biology just memorization?+
No — and that misconception is why students plateau. Knowledge is necessary but roughly half the marks come from applying it to unseen data, experiments and explanations. Tutoring focuses on both: systematic coverage of the syllabus and weekly practice on data-style questions.
How big is the IGCSE Biology syllabus?+
Twenty-plus topics at CAIE — the largest of the three sciences. That is why an organized study plan matters more than raw hours: we sequence topics by dependency and weight, so revision time goes where marks are densest.
Can you help with genetics problems?+
Yes — monohybrid crosses, Punnett squares, pedigree analysis and probability wording are a core part of tutoring at Extended tier, worked through live on the shared whiteboard.
My child studies IGCSE in the Gulf. Do lesson times work?+
Yes. We schedule 1-to-1 lessons in Gulf Standard Time and Arabia Standard Time, including weekday evenings and weekends. We also teach students in the UK, Europe and North America in their local time zones.
When should IGCSE Biology tutoring start?+
Year 10 is ideal — the syllabus is too large to leave to a final revision term. For Year 11 students, starting by January allows full coverage plus Extended-tier practice before the summer series.
