Tutoriz provides 1-to-1 online IB Physics tutoring for Standard Level and Higher Level students on the current IB Diploma syllabus — the five themes from Space, Time and Motion to Nuclear and Quantum Physics. Tutors coach Paper 1A multiple choice, Paper 1B data-based questions, Paper 2 written answers and the Scientific Investigation (IA), with lessons scheduled in your time zone. Every student starts with a free demo class.

IB Physics is not the course older siblings took. Students who started the Diploma from August 2023 study a reorganised syllabus built around five themes — Space, Time and Motion; The Particulate Nature of Matter; Wave Behaviour; Fields; and Nuclear and Quantum Physics — with the first exams sat in May 2025. Revision guides and video playlists organised around the old numbered topics often do not map cleanly onto the new structure, which is one reason students feel lost. Our IB Physics tutors teach directly from the current guide, so the student's mental map matches the one examiners use.

Most marks in IB Physics are not lost on definitions. They are lost on multi-step quantitative reasoning — resolving vectors, setting up energy or momentum arguments, chaining gas-law or field equations across several steps — on unfamiliar experimental data in Paper 1B, and on extended Paper 2 explanations that name the right principle but skip a step in the derivation. Tutoring sessions are built around those skills: worked examples that are gradually faded out, timed sets of mixed questions, and explicit practice reading the IB physics data booklet quickly and accurately.

Higher Level adds substantial Additional Higher Level content: rigid-body rotation and torque, special relativity and Lorentz transformations, thermodynamic processes and entropy, the Doppler effect for light, electromagnetic induction, quantum phenomena and stellar fusion. HL students are matched with tutors who have taught HL specifically, because the jump from SL is wider in physics than in most Diploma subjects.

We work with IB Diploma students at international schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh and Kuwait, across Europe, and in the USA and Canada. Lessons are 1-to-1 online with a shared whiteboard for diagrams, derivations and calculations, at evening and weekend times that fit around Gulf, European and North American school weeks.

Where Students Struggle in IB Physics

These are the IB Physics sticking points our tutors solve most often.

Multi-step problems that fall apart mid-way

IB questions rarely ask for one equation. Students who can use F = ma, conservation of energy or gas laws in isolation still lose marks when a question chains them together. Tutors use faded worked examples until students can plan the full route before touching a calculator.

Fields and directions that blur together

Gravitational field strength, electric field, magnetic flux density and the direction of forces on charges get confused fast. We anchor each field to its source, its units and a consistent sign convention, then drill vector-resolution until it is automatic.

Paper 1B data they've never seen

Paper 1B rewards practical thinking — propagating uncertainties, spotting systematic error, judging whether data supports a conclusion. We practise with unfamiliar data sets every week instead of leaving this to the final month.

An IA variable that can't be measured well

Many physics IAs fail at the design stage: a dependent variable the school's sensors cannot measure precisely, too few repeats, or uncontrolled variables. Tutors coach the student's own question toward something focused, feasible and analysable — the investigation and write-up remain the student's work.

How IB Physics Is Assessed

Each component rewards a different skill, so tutoring is planned around the components your child sits.

ComponentFormatWeighting
Paper 1A — Multiple choiceMultiple-choice questions across the whole syllabus (more questions at HL). Sat in the same session as Paper 1B; no calculator, data booklet provided.Paper 1 total: SL 36% · HL 36%
Paper 1B — Data-based questionsQuestions built on experimental data and practical scenarios: reading graphs, processing uncertainties, evaluating methods and conclusions. Sat together with Paper 1A (SL 1h 30m, HL 2h for the whole of Paper 1).Included in Paper 1
Paper 2 — Written responsesShort-answer and extended-response questions, many combining several themes in one context. SL 1h 30m, HL 2h 30m. Calculator and data booklet allowed.SL 44% · HL 44%
Internal Assessment — Scientific InvestigationAn open-ended investigation of the student's own design, about 10 hours of work, written up in no more than 3,000 words. Marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation; moderated by the IB.SL 20% · HL 20%

IB Physics Tutoring FAQs

Do you teach the current IB Physics syllabus?+

Yes. Our tutors teach the current IB Diploma Physics guide — first taught from August 2023 and first examined in May 2025 — which is organised into five themes (Space, Time and Motion; The Particulate Nature of Matter; Wave Behaviour; Fields; Nuclear and Quantum Physics) with no options. If your child's school resources still use the older topic numbering, the tutor will map them across so nothing is missed.

What's the difference between IB Physics SL and HL?+

SL and HL share the same core themes, papers and IA. HL adds the Additional Higher Level material — including rotational mechanics, special relativity, thermodynamic processes, electromagnetic induction, quantum physics and stellar fusion — plus longer papers and more multiple-choice questions. HL is often a requirement for physics, engineering and related degrees, and typically needs considerably more study time.

Can a tutor help with my Physics IA?+

Yes, within IB academic integrity rules. Tutors help students refine a research question, think through variables and controls, plan data collection, process uncertainties and understand the four assessment criteria. They do not design the investigation for the student or write or edit the report — your teacher gives the formal draft feedback the IB allows.

How do you prepare students for Paper 1B?+

With regular practice on unfamiliar experimental data: reading graphs and tables, calculating and propagating uncertainties, identifying random and systematic error and suggesting improvements to a method. Because these are the same skills the IA assesses, Paper 1B practice and IA preparation reinforce each other.

My child is studying IB Physics in Dubai or Doha. Do lesson times work?+

Yes. We schedule 1-to-1 lessons in Gulf Standard Time and Arabia Standard Time, including weekday evenings and weekends, around the UAE, Qatar, Saudi and Kuwaiti school weeks. We also teach students across Europe and North America in their local time zones.

When should IB Physics tutoring start?+

Ideally early in DP1, when Theme A builds the mechanics and energy foundations that fields, waves and nuclear physics all depend on. Many students also join before DP1 mocks, during IA planning in DP1 or DP2, or for intensive past-paper preparation before the May or November exam session.
